BMW motorcycles feature a straight-forward design featuring an intake camshaft and two lobes per valve. This design comes with a sliding actuator that determines which lobes are in use. This system allows the engine to switch between heavy and light loads with ease. While the engine operates on a lighter load, it runs to maintain energy and save fuel. As the driver begins to demand more, the full load cams provide unbeatable performance as it adjusts.
Having this new ShiftCam technology work in conjunction with the larger engine sizes is what makes the new 2019 lineup so thrilling. The valves stagger their working order to make the system truly unique. With this design, the burn is more efficient because it creates a swirl of air and fuel.
These new motorcycles produce 134 horsepower and feature 105.5 pound-feet of torque. The previous models only contained 123 horsepower with 92.2 pound-feet of torque, so this is an improvement, to say the least. In addition, the newer lineup also features a lower idle, reduced emissions and a big jump in the fuel economy.
