The BMW R 1200 Series Gets Exciting Updates in New 2019 BMW R 1250 Models

The new BMW R1200 series is about to receive some fantastic updates and upgrades to the powertrain, leading to a whole new series. This sport touring bike is often the bestselling lineup for the BMW, and for a good reason. Currently, it contains a 1170cc flat-twin boxer engine that has powered the BMW Motorrad GS and RT models for over 35 years, but 2019 and BMW ShiftCam technology is bringing some changes with the new BMW R 1250 GS and BMW R 1250 RT. Let’s take a closer look at this exciting new BMW motorcycle news.

Engine Upgrades that Will Blow Your Mind

The more advanced boxer engine in the new R 1250 GS and R 1250 RT is specked out to Euro-V norms and offers more power while maintaining its fuel efficiency. You might wonder how this is possible, but it’s simple. The VVT, otherwise known as Variable Valve Timing is hidden by the cylinder head which pairs perfectly to the new 1254cc engine. That takes the horsepower from 125 to 134. On top of that, you can expect the noise levels to drop from 92dB to just 88dB. Once the Euro-V norms take over in 2020, they might even lose another 10dB. Even though this addition adds 11 pounds to the bike, you won’t notice any drop in performance, plus the fuel efficiency remains mostly unchanged.
